Might just be me but I didn’t like this book too tough. I underlined a bunch but most of it felt over simplified. Some people aren’t choosing to suffer some have gone through very traumatic experiences and losses. That takes time to heal through. I liked a lot of the simplistic ways to depersonalize everyday slights but big ones like abuse and death are not things we choose to stay stuck in. I struggled to finish this because of the extra unnecessary details and push of religion at the weirdest times. I’ll take what I liked and toss the rest.

This was very insightful for a way of thinking that seems almost obvious but not used. I really enjoyed reading this and read it within like an hour and a half. My only problem with it is that it tends to get repetitive like he is trying to meet a word count. I caught myself ending it slightly early because he repeats himself and paraphrased his own sentences over and over again. But, it was still a good book and very insightful.

Honestly since reading this book, I have a lot of problems that the way this author approaches the subject of abuse in his “agreements”. Blaming abuse on the victim because they let it happen to them is a horrible perception of the reality of abuse. I initially like this authors approach to the four agreements method he was detailing but the approach on the examples and situations was not it.

The four agreements

Even if our beliefs (the book of law) is wrong we still want to believe it because it makes us feel safe.

Even if it’s true, that we know, we did not create all of our beliefs, we did agree to them.

NOPE: Calling Germans the “smartest people in the world” - what’s up with this straight up opinion being toted as fact

NOPE: Saying people can give themselves cancer with their beliefs

Don’t take things personally: When someone says something negative about you that is poison. When you choose to believe it, that is you choosing to ingest their poison.

NOPE: “if you have a need to be abused, you will find yourself being abused”
