For me it felt more of a YA than Sci Fi but I did liked it. Have to give credit to the author who managed to pull it off with such a difficult character. Nemesis is bloody ruthless but her character development was amazing. However I still don't trust Tyrus (sorry but something feels off). With Donia, I've got to say that the twists involving her were kind of obvious... All in all, I liked it, it had enough action, good writing, easy pace, good characters and interesting plot.

audiobook- narrator- 4 stars
Interesting take on the humanity in us, genetically engineered people and animals.
Political back stabbing, familicide, rape, animal abuse, abuse mental and physical.
The book directs you to look at what is love, or it tries too.
The heroine was loyal to a fault at times, as she was designed to be.
The who was really the snake fooled me to the end and I'm still wondering
I enjoyed the book but had some issues with bits.
1) The love was too instant without any real reason for it. Why did he love her ? I never got it, it seemed just to be there. I needed some grounding on that.
2) Her jumping from robotic like to emotional to robotic like did not flow right for me it felt broken
3) The big happening was too easy, the ending too neat

The pacing was a bit up and down, but I enjoyed Nemesis's pov. A lot happened in the first book that I think could've been drawn out a bit more.

I LOVE S.J. Kincaid!!!

First the Insignia-trilogy, now this. Expect a LOT of gushing from me :D

First of all: SPAAAACCCEEE!!
I haven't purposefully sought out books set in space for a long time, and this one is set in it (a literal surprise when I started reading it, did not expect it at all)

Secondly: the CHARACTERS!
My all-time favourite is Tyrus, from the very beginning, before he reveals his true colours, I was madly fascinated by him (I re-read the passage about the chat-forum about twelve times before I moved on to the rest of the story, all with a huge, eager grin. I think it made me look insane, but come on! He's one of the most awesome characters I've read in a LONG time). There was just something... off... about him which made things click in my mind much sooner than the 'official' reveal. I LOVE characters like him!

The rest of the cast was also surprisingly well fleshed out, and EVERYONE has their own agenda. It's like GoT on steroids in space and it's awesome!

Overall, I'm completely head over heels in love with this story and I have dual feelings about wanting a sequel. On one hand it would be awesome because of the setting and the world.
On the other hand, it would ruin the end of this book, which wraps things up quite nicely.

Argh, I've never been so conflicted about sequelitis....

Anyways, read the book and I'm pretty sure you'll fall in love with it, as I have.

Over and Out!

The book is incredibly well written but the series as a whole, man, it's a train wreck. The author should have stopped at the first book and left it as a stand alone novel. It's one of the best books I've ever read which is why it saddens me that the rest of the series gets worse. Anyway, read this!

The beginning of this novel was slow but by the middle I was hooked. The twists were excellent and the characters were believable. The ending disappointed me though because it felt rushed. I would give this book 3.6 stars.

DNF on page 105/481 (German translation, so page length may differ)

This book just isn’t for me. It has a solid premise, intricate world-building, and fitting characters, I just couldn’t relate to it in any way. While the writing style captures the main character perfectly, I found it boring and emotionless and had serious trouble caring about what happened.
A hundred pages in and I’m just not interested, so I’ll just DNF this. That’s not to say this is a bad book; it’s just not the right book for me.
