Sorry, even though I enjoyed this book I am dropping the series. Ethel is just getting unbearable. Again, she is a total bitch and she once again ruins it for Mildred. I really hate Ethel, she is one of the worst characters I ever seen. I don't get why the school doesn't see what is happening. After all we know what happened various times, and during those times the school head must have seen that quite often it was Ethel's fault, yet they always blame poor Mildred.

Mildred was wonderful in this book, you can clearly see she has grown a lot through the years and the books. She is still clumsy, still does things wrong, but you can see she has a heart of gold underneath that. She does her best and she did so well during this term, sadly Ethel (again) ruined everything.

The story was also fun and I really liked the ending.

However the formula of the books keep being the same: Kids coming to school on brooms, stuff go wrong, term starts, stuff happens, Ethel is a bitch, ruins stuff, Mildred gets the blame, and then voilĂ  stuff happen and Mildred saves the day. It gets old, really old. I wish the books would have a bit difference with the formula.

I also didn't particularly like the teachers POV, I come for Mildred and her adventures, not for some old hags who don't see the good in people and only look at Ethel with drooling admiration.

The illustrations were pretty fun and they really give that extra sparkle to the story.

All in all, I am not sure if I would recommend this book/series. On the one hand, it is a good series, on the other hand it is predictable and it has one of the most horrendous characters that I know.

A trip down Memory Lane. Good old Mildred and the gang are all still there, still the same characters, friendships and rivalries, problems and solutions. As an adult I will never get the enjoyment out of this I would have as an 8-year-old, but the nostalgia trip was a pleasant one.

In the latest Mildred Hubble story, the girls are now 4th years with duties, and after wishing on a star, Mildred gets her wish. A stray dog! Can she keep the loveable pup hidden from Miss Hardbroom? And with all the talk of an inter-school competition to win a swimming pool, surely the accident-prone Mildred is bound to cause a disaster...

Adults will see the plot turns a mile away, but it's not for us, is it? A perfectly lovely and safe addition to the series, with Murphy's excellent illustrations as always peppering the text. They won't be disappointed.

Just loved reading these books to my 7 year old. This one wasn't around when I was little so a new story for me.

It seems that Mildred has finally come up trumps and HB has softened a little.

This series is so nostalgic to me, I remember reading the early ones when I was in primary school. So they hold a special place in my heart. As does the 90's TV adaptation. I still love these books to this day and the newer ones that have been added since I grew up are a great addition,  you cannot tell that they were added after.

Many happy memories of reading Worst Witch books to my son, so couldn't resist reading this. As ever Mildred shows how big her heart. Even as an adult, I loved it.
