What a fascinating, depressing read. Don’t have much to say on this one, other than that it was hard to get through in some places, both because of the complexities of Lori and Chad’s ever-changing worldview, and because of the overlapping timelines of the story. The author does a thorough job of including background information about LDS history, conspiracy theories, preppers, and Doomsday evangelists. I’m still wrapping my mind around all the implications here. It reminded me of Educated by Tara Westover, how off the rails some people can get with their theology and fear of government. I’ll be following this up with Under the Banner of Heaven by Kraukaer.
