I really enjoyed The Island House. I found the characters likable and especially loved Signy's story. As a dual-time novel, I think Posie Graeme-Evans did an excellent job at conveying both time-periods so that the story flowed and kept me turning pages. I think the character development could have been a little better, but overall I loved it. Fans of Susanna Kearsley will love this book.
Probably a 3 & a half star book but it took me awhile to really immerse myself in the dual plot lines. Most interesting was the story of Signy, the Pictish girl from 800AD & her treatment at the hands of the Christian settlers who settle the remote Scottish island where she & her family lived. And her love for the young Viking raider, Bear.

I really enjoyed this first book of Posie Graeme-Evans. It was an easy to read historical time travel type romance with glimpses into the past and wonderful present day characters.

The Island House by Poise Graeme-Evans
“Alternating between present-day and ninth-century Scotland, The Island House is an intertwined story of fascinating discoveries and two women connected to each other over centuries."
This book had everything I love in a great story. It combined a good contemporary mystery and suspense with a historical thought provoking story with interesting characters and plot, even a feeling of the supernatural at times. I did really enjoy reading this book, and it could have rated 5 out of 5 stars had it not been for the ending of the book. There were moments at the end of the book that seemed confusing and unnecessary which could easily have been edited out without ruining the story. I also think the characters could have been developed more, including the relationship between Katherine and Michael and I didn't understand the need for the characters Simon? and Rob? I'm not sure why they were even in the story, this just added confusion and weakened the ending of the book. ..In saying all this though, I was still totally engrossed in this book and couldn't put it down until I had finished the book.

Such a great author. Love her writing style. The only negative I have is that the story ended quite abruptly. Was expecting a bit more to wrap the story up. But otherwise a fantastic read.
I was pulled into the story in the beginning of the book but my interest waned half way through. I had to force myself to finish. I am glad I did there was a good plot with a lot of foreshadowing.
