The writing was better than I expected, but the story was lazy.
I just cannot appreciate a 'brother's best friend' romance when the two MCs are adults. What do you mean you have to receive his "blessing"?
Also, I don't really know how the two fell in love because there's no great relationship building. Yes, the FMC has always had a crush on the MMC, but what did she do to deserve his affection once they were older? The answer is nothing, which is why I found this book lazy.
I also hate the seemingly inescapable parts in interconnected romances where the friends of the FMC offer up their two cents and inappropriately imply that they can tell what's going on in the FMC's relationship before she even realizes it. These friends are always the same: nosy. It's annoying. More importantly, it's lazy world building, because it's always painfully clear the author is attempting to establish the friends' future romances through these scenes.
As much as I wanted to like this book, since the story was interesting enough, I just couldn't. It was filled with every cliche I hate in interconnected sports romances, which I couldn't get past, despite my love for fake dating romances.

There were aspects of this book that were fun but overall it was a miss. I didn’t love that the whole reason this bad boy hockey player needed to reform his reputation was because of a rape allegation. I felt that was in poor taste to further the narrative that women make that shit up. I also did not appreciate how much the mmc loved that his date ordered real food and not a salad like all those other women (insert eye roll).
I wasn’t a fan of the ending. honestly i’d probably give it a 3.5 just because the ending made me mad. it went from 0-100 in 2 seconds and it just felt very unrealistic and rushed.
