A fabulous magical middle grade read that really affected my emotions.
Kate has her birthday coming up so writes to her long long uncle to ask for a present (yes I know slightly entitled, but there we go) and in turn he brings her a life-size steam train. This isn't an ordinary train though as at night it comes to life and Kate and her brother go on an adventure across the world transporting animals.
This book is about learning responsibility and about the earth, animals and how we treat them.
It left me sad in places, but overall hopeful that people can learn.

This will be a nice read aloud for the family. Great audiobook since Simon Vance is narrating it.

This book was just so much more than it seemed. Beautiful and tragic and utterly captivating. I can not recommend it enough, to readers of any age. Big feelings and big thoughts in a sweet little story about two children and a train full of talking animals.
