I waited to review this one until I finished the sequel, Namesake, because I have almost the exact same feelings about both of them. So I will copy and paste my review from here, to there.

If I am remembering that I am reading this through the lens of a YA novel, then I would say that this is really good and I would recommend it for all of your YA's in your life. It's got action, romance, a fast paced plot, and a touch of magic.

If I am reading this through the lens of my current self who is an adult, I think it would have been great if these two novels were combined into one long one. I dont know why I can't get over the fact that this book ends on such a dramatic/stark plot twist. It made it more elementary to me... which is okay! Because it is written for a younger audience! But still! If I'm writing this review based on my preferences when I am reading (I am by the way. I always am. So you never have to worry about that faithful readers), I didn't like it and I think I would have given the one giant book made up of both books, 4 stars.

3.5 rounded down. Fable was a girl boss but the book was… startling unromantic. Every time West did literally anything “romantic” to Fable, all I thought was, “But why? Why does he like her?” I never got a good answer.

This book was so good. It was well written and took me straight into their world. I couldn't stop reading it. Fable is my kind of inspirational, independent, determined young woman. Her willpower and drive is not something to mess with. This is a book I could read again and not get bored with. If you like adventure, this is the book you want to read.

For someone who threw up for two hours the last time I got on a book, I sure am deep in my run-from-responsibilty-and-join-a-rag-tag-group-of-pirate-vigilantes reading era. Yes the smell of sea water will forever be associated with motion sickness for me but maybe that's why I am so obsessed with navel adventures? Because it's even more fantastical a concept to me than time travel or Narnia?

I take back every bad thing I've ever said about pirate books!
