I really enjoyed this book! It's a lot like 'Daughter Of The Pirate King' by Tricia Levenseller, but i prefer this a lot more.
Adrienne does a better job of making this feel like an adventure AND a romance, whereas 'Daughter Of The Pirate King' mainly focused on the romance. Adrienne did an amazing job with the characters and making them feel realistic (for the world they're in) and they were enjoyable! The reason I gave this 4 stars was mainly because Wes admits (later in the book) that he has been in love with Fable since the first time they met and that shit is so damn cute

Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her family and fight for her place while trying to survive built exclusively for vicious men.
Of course the cover is fetching, but the LANGUAGE of FABLE, truly sets this novel apart from other YA titles I’ve read in the last year and a half.
Much like plunging into a roiling sea, Young submerges the reader into Fable’s world of scratching and clawing to merely survive as a dredger on the desolate and cutthroat island of Jeval. Descriptions are beautiful as well as gritty, and no detail is left to the imagination. All of your senses will be engaged by Young’s writing.
While initially the plot might seem sluggish, I enjoyed the longer exposition to flesh out Fable’s dire circumstances. Too often I read novels where the protagonist is in mortal danger and POOF! All better! Nope, not for our lass, Fable. No one is doing this young woman favors and if she wants to survive she will have to hold on by the skin of her teeth.

I REALLY wanted to like this):
The cover is still one of my faves, but the story just didn't do it for me. I'm not a big "adventure lost at sea/pirate story" type of gal to start, but I still figured I'd give this one a chance. I enjoyed the parts about family and romance, and the author writes about love really well, but she noticeably uses a lot of the same metaphors and similes several times throughout the novel. There's also this theme about "never letting anyone know what's important to you" and it was super repetitive at times. It took me SO long to get through this book, and I really wish it was worth it. This is the first time Reese Witherspoon's book club has let me down lol.
