I have been resistant to read this bestseller because of all of the plagiarism allegations against her (coupled with not enjoying the only other McFadden thriller I’ve read “The Locked Door.”) My sister had it on her shelf, so I thought why not while on vacation? I read this in one sitting by the pool - while it’s a fast read and a page turner, unfortunately this is FOR SURE a rip off of “The Last Mrs Parrish.”
Millie is desperate for a job. She’s a convicted felon and living out of her car, so when the affluent Nina Winchester hires her as a live in housemaid, Millie jumps at the chance. She witnesses odd behavior by Nina, from manic to manipulative, all while thinking Andrew Winchester deserves better. Soon, Millie and Andrew get to know each other better - and nothing is as it seems.
Plot twist after plot twist was directly out of “The Last Mrs Parrish” (which was published five years before this) so I wasn’t surprised by anything other than being shocked she got away with this plagiarism TBH. I also think LMP is the better of the two because there are serval extra over the top changes McFadden makes. If I didn’t know the twists, I could totally see why people love this one. Unfortunately I just can’t because of the context 😬.
✨Content Warnings: Domestic Abuse, Torture, Emotional Abuse, Gaslighting, Physical Abuse, Confinement, Toxic Relationship, Infidelity, Body Shaming, Sexual Assault, Death of a Parent, Suicidal Thoughts
✨Themes: Justice, Domestic Abuse, Manipulation

This was fine? It had some good moments but everything felt very obvious and predictable.
