Though this was an improvement on the 3rd book, with no more of the supernatural stuff that appeared in that book, still, it didn't really grab me. Maybe I'm just bored with Dexter.

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The dark passenger is making fewer and fewer appearances with each book. Need to get back to the basics.

Compared to the previous book in the series, this one is more true to form. But it has begun to do something that I would have previously considered very unlikely, character growth of a serial killer. Sure Dexter isn't the normal serial killer--but the author could have built a successful franchise without any growth. Instead we are treated to an actual living breathing character developing in unexpected but believable ways.

really thought the series was lacking but it picked up with this book i just wanna give dexter a kiss on the forehead *mwah*

Back to normal with the dexter books. Wasn't keen on the 3rd book as it went a bit supernatural but this one was good. Dokes is still. On his case and his sisters partner. Loved it!

So I do enjoy Lindsay’s writing style but again I am conflicted. As much as the plot was more interesting than the last book, there are a number of glaring unresolved plot holes by the end. The YouTube channel is still active, so Dexter is absolutely not off the hook. Aside from that, in all books he is just a bumbling buffoon who gets bailed out by various deus ex and contrived circumstances. He is the master of his own downfall, repeatedly, but is portrayed as a genius. And I don’t know why they bothered going to Cuba.
But Lindsay does write very well indeed, and I am very pleased to see Rita do something meaningful apart from be constantly flustered.

Another solid book from the Dexter series. This is making me want to go back & rewatch the show, even though it’s different from the books. I love listening to these! Lindsay is a fantastic narrator. I laughed out loud when Doakes’ voice machine let out a cheerful “Motherf*cker!” when it was supposed to be an insult.
