"All The Queen's Men" (the second book in the "John Medina" series) by Linda Howard zeros in on the CIA Black Ops legend that is John Medina and what makes him tick. (We were briefly introduced to Medina in "Kill And Tell" where he rides in with the cavalry and saves the day.) I must say, he turns out to be a pretty interesting character (though he really needs to work on his foreplay skills).
In this story, John and reluctant former fellow field agent Niema Burdock must infiltrate a charming French arms dealer's inner circle and bring him down before he brings more death and destruction by brokering a virtually non-detectable explosive device.
Nice blend of action, suspense and romance. Looking forward to the next book in the series. The way it's been set up, I assume John and Niema will be neck deep in another seemingly impossible mission.

The story was solid but there was a rape scene that isn't addressed and a second rape scene that's kind of played off as though it were necessary for their safety and the fmc just never thinks twice about the mmc being pretty awful in that moment.

This is another one where the last half of the book is what really had me enthralled and earned the stars. The first part was good but lacked an excitement you expect in a CIA spies series. That first part was more about setting up what was to come in the 2nd half.

So...This book. It is clear it was written a while ago from several things I had issues with, but my biggest issue was this: The rapey sex. No sir, I didn't like it. It pulled me straight out of the story, and there aren't just one but two different scenes with two different couples that bothered me in this regard. The consent is definitely not made clear, and...shall we say care is not taken that all parties are adequately prepared for intercourse? But the girl orgasms, so that somehow makes it all okay.
And then there is the end. By which I mean it just...ends. There is no resolution of the relationship, I have no idea how the characters will make things work, no idea what they plan for the future, and we even leave it in a place where I'm not really convinced they're a couple. Sure, they've said, or at least implied "I love you" but there are an awful lot of obstacles in their way and the story just stops with everything still up in the air.
