I really enjoyed this YA piratical fantasy! There were a lot of fun twists throughout, though I predicted almost all of them. I liked the depth of the story and the details of Alosa’s character. The characters seemed older than they were (17 and 18?? Yeah, they didn’t act that age). I wish there was more romance!! I’m excited to read the next book and see what happens next.

I give this ⭐⭐⭐. It was a bit of a formulaic plot, and rather easy to guess the next event due to this. I like the seafaring lore peppered throughout. It was a bit violent in moments by my taste, mostly due to the stated age of characters involved, but not overtly. All in all a good, quick read. I am going to read the next in the series, which is the nicest thing I think I could say about it.

Daughter of the Pirate King is about Alosa, and her mission.  She is tasked to allow herself to be kidnapped by a rival crew in order to steal an item from them. A prisoner in the midst of this ruthless crew, Alosa knows her spoils are close at hand. As soon as her captors turn their backs, she leaves to explore the boat. Her most formidable obstacle will be first mate  Riden, who is particularly intelligent, and above all very attractive. The young woman has more than one trick up her sleeve, and no one can stop the Pirate King's daughter!

Fun YA novel. Didn't really care for the main character, but she's a great YA protagonist. The plot was fun and pirate-y. Interested to see how it plays out in the next book.
