This was pretty solid for a YA debut. It got a little bit repetitive towards the middle, and it was fairly predictable, but the beginning and the ending were fun. The romance wasn't super believable, but it was entertaining and cute. I would say that it gave me similar vibes to Throne of Glass, although there are no fae involved in this one. I am definitely interested in reading some of Tricia Levenseller's adult books.

Really loved this, it was very entertaining, and I liked Alosa's perspective and learning about what she does and all that.

Pretty good book overall! The rising action(s) weren’t particularly amazing, but the climax and falling action(s) were executed well.
Upon finishing this book, I don’t see how the main character Alosa could be sold as a “female Jack Sparrow”. The only things the two characters have in common being they are both pirates and both enjoy being pirates. Both characters are great, but it’s difficult to compare the similarities of their personalities; they are on opposite ends of the spectrum so take the selling point with a grain of salt.
A classic enemies to lovers trope, which I feel was executed pretty well.
The conflicts had good structure but maybe could’ve been beefed up by better execution of scenes/dialogue. A handful of scenes felt out of left field. 3.5/5⭐️
