It was a fitting closure to the series I loved a lot. Thank you for not pulling a Ruin and Rising
I can’t properly review this, I’m still crying. Can there please PLEASE be some sequel-novellas or something? Will proceed to re-reading everything as soon as I can function again.
I am so happy about the ending, and I still want mooore. I need to know what happens with Dorian and Manon, if Yrene manages to build a Torre in the North, how the witches get on in the wastes, Manon and Ansel being neighbours, what happened with Dorian’s mom and brother, where is Nox, will Manon and Dorian have kids, will Lorcan spend the holidays alone, will Dorian name a hypothetical son Dorian after his father, did they get the Erawan-stain off the floor and WHAT WAS ROWANS RECOMMENDATION FOR AELIN ON WHAT TO REBUILD FIRST?
Also do you think Aelin and Rowan will do a Harry Potter and name their kids Sam Gavriel and Marion Nehemia or what?
Will they really have as many kids as Rowan saw in his vision? And will Dorian and Aelins powers be inherited and back to normal god-power in their kids? (AND if Starfall is souls travelling between worlds like Rhys thought, will Starfall stop since the gate was closed by Aelin? And did Rhys and Feyre get mashed soul in their faces in ACOMAF?)
But also I don’t want to know too much. I don’t think I can handle all the non-immortals dying. I’m just going to pretend everyone lives forever including Fleetfoot.

*screams for 10 minutes* thanks for listening, that concludes my review.
but seriously this book bRoKe me. I have never in my life cried so damn much reading a book. Sarah J Maas just makes you FEEL everything and I was reading this book in public and trying to hold back the tears. Literally how rude. Why do this to me SJM???
The real star of this series is the characters. They're just so precious and they've been through so much and they're trying so hard like please stop hurting them.
aelin
• our girl Aelin
• I mean you think she's just an assassin (emphasis on the sass) but then she turns out to be so much more and you're like o.O
• but she's clearly so lost and her arc across the series is her just finding herself and accepting herself and it's just so beautiful
• and she's so damn funny and she just cares about her friends and her people so much
• and yes, she's incredibly annoying and arrogant and it's like why can't you just trust your friends and let others sacrifice for once, but she's tries so hard and she gives so much
rowan
• I LOVEEEE the relationship between rowan and aelin
• like, love me but also be rude to me all the time in front of everyone tear me down idc
• and he is so lost and hurt too, and he's desperately trying to claw back
aedion
• I love aedion with all my heart
• he is honestly the most loyal person in this series
• he did a bad thing
• bad
• but it was perfect for his character and really showed another side to him we hadn't seen, like the downside to his intense loyalty
•
lysandra and evangeline
• this girl/ghost leopard/wyvern/whatever she wants to be because she's a damn QUEEN
• her story is the mirror to aelin's in a lot of ways and I love the friendship they have formed over the series
• she has so much strength and just deserves everything good
• and the way she mothers Evangeline is just too precious
• and Evangeline is the hidden mvp I mean she is so determined and PURE
dorian
• I feel so much for dorian
• his story across the series has been a wild ride and I think he wants to get off
• but the way he has changed and matured is just magical (heh) to read and he was so STRONG and IMPORTANT in this book
• no longer will he stand in aelin's shadow, he became a damn King in this book
chaol and yrene
• oh chaol is a mess
• he's made so many mistakes and annoyed me so many times across the series that I'd kinda lost hope with him
• but I slightly warmed to him in Tower of Dawn and he proved himself again in this book
• his one redeemable feature is his loyalty and friendship with dorian, that is cute to be fair
• but yrene makes him so much more interesting because she's AMAZING
• yrene is one of favourite characters, which is crazy given that we only met her in the previous book
• and she is fantastic in this book
• so opposite to aelin in so many ways, but just as strong and just as sacrificing and just as necessary
elide and lorcan
• *squeals*
• YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
• Elide might be my favourite character in the series
• she is so strong AND gentle at the same time
• I loved lorcan's character arc across the series and the development of his relationship with elide
• SLOWEST. BURN. EVER.
• damn did Elide make him work for it and make him work to deserve her
• I love that lorcan's character arc didn't complete ruin his character like
Fenrys
• right, DO NOT FIGHT ME ON THIS
• Fenrys is precious and should be protected at all costs
• but his story is so sad and I honestly am tearing up just thinking about him
• he's basically rowan (moody, dark,, and trying to find his way back to himself after all that he has been through and all that Maeve has put him through) but WITHOUT a mate to help him
• like someone help him and cherish him pls
gavriel
• bless
• the purest kitty-cat
• he just cares for aedion so damn much and is so respectful to everyone like come on Rowan, Lorcan and Fenrys start taking notes
manon and the thirteen
• CRIES FOR THREE DAYS
• I mean obviously, Manon is perfect in every possible way
• her character arc is the best out of everyone
• the thirteen are precious
• and it's remarkable how far into denial you can sink yourself so good luck everyone
nesryn
• gonna be honest, never really liked Nesryn
• UNTIL Tower of Dawn when we saw her with her family and I gained mad respect for her
• buttttt then she went boring again in this book
• like, I'm glad she gets her happy ending and all, but she really fell into the background in this book
the Khaganate
• again, these guys kinda fell into the background in this book, despite being a major factor in defeating Erawan's armies
• Sartaq is okay, I just wish we saw more of him
• Hasar is glorious
• I loved her interactions with aelin, it really has aelin/lysandra potential like going from hostile to don't-touch-her-or-I'll-kill-you kinda vibes
• Kashin, sorry who?? was he even in this book? just goes to show how far into the background the Southern Continent people fell
• like, I get that they were only introduced in the previous book, but I wanted to see more of them
borte
• BORTE THOUGH. NEW FAVOURITE.
• honestly a queen
• I need more content featuring her and aelin and lysandra as best friends and getting manicures before killing people
• her relationship with Yeran is gOLD like I'm just waiting for one of them to legit stab the other for fun when is this happening?
As much as I love the characters and the series as a whole, I must admit this book was not perfect. It's INCREDIBLY long and the plot is so slow it was painful at times. I did end up skipping pages and skimming the endless battle scenes, but I just love these characters so much I couldn't give this book less than 5 stars.
I am genuinely so sad to say goodbye to these characters

Giving this a fair rating of 4 but I could not take this series anymore. I wanted it to end with Queen of Shadows and hardcore fans can be mad at me but the last 3 books were overly long and not needed. I adore the first 5 books.
-Re-read: 2025
Ik heb gewoon heel veel liefde voor deze serie en (bijna) alle personages. Dus dankjewel Sarah J. Maas voor alle tranen, glim- en schaterlachen en de blijdschap die deze boeken mij voor de tweede keer hebben gebracht.
