I really love this series, and the latest entry didn't disappoint. It starts out light-hearted with wonderful historical details and costumes. I'd never heard of a Twelfth Night party before, and it was described so vividly, I could imagine myself there. I wish I had been, except for the part where the dead body was discovered.

Once again, my favorite part of this series is the love and devotion Kiera gets from her husband, Gage. Where he could demand she stop investigating, especially since she's pregnant, he's nothing but supportive of her. He understands that she needs to use the skills she unwillingly was taught to do some good in the world. Their relationship is loving and romantic, and I would read a thousand books for it.

The mystery was really well done, too. I love books that expose the seedy underbelly of the age when it came to the upper class. Most books of the time make it seem like everyone was perfect and faithful and no one every strayed, but Huber delves into the affairs the upper class had and shows how it was an open secret of the time. I loved the duchess and her family. They were definitely a colorful sort and not one that you come across in books a lot.

Overall, this was an excellently written book and a fantastic read. It was just the kind of thing I needed to escape the world around me.

An excellent historical mystery, it's the first I read in this series and won't surely be the last.
I appreciated the well crafted plot, the vivid and well researched historical background and the fleshed out cast of characters.
The mystery is solid and kept me guessing till the end.
An engrossing and entertaining read, recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Love that we are back in Scotland! And at another great manor house! This was another great mystery to add to Kiera and Gage's collection. The clues were great and some parts easy to figure out, but for the most part I could not figure out the murderer until the end.

And of course I am loving Kiera and Gage's relationship changing and growing stronger. I love the way they rely on each other and how they might fight, but in the end are a great unit. Also I am happy to have Marsdale back. From the beginning of the series he has always been such an intriguing character.

Now I can't wait for the next book because we are going to be getting my dear Bonnie Brock back. Oh how I have missed him! Thankfully the book will be out soon so I won't have to wait long!

Too many coincidences

I’m starting to grow tired of the number of coincidences that are necessary for the plot. I’ll probably read the next book, but if it is more of the same, it will be the last one for me.

Hmmm... 3.5? The mystery kinda dragged for me this time around, but I still love the characters so it was enjoyable despite that.

It gets a 4 if only because the loving nature of the mixed family. I feared there was going to be some resentment about half siblings and (essentially) adopted siblings, but there wasnt and that made me happy.
