Muthisti!

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. It was an interesting concept but didn't make me eager for more.
"Words save our lives, sometimes."
"I was not happy as a child, although from time to time I was content. I lived in books more than I lived anywhere else."
"Books were safer than other people anyway."
"I went away in my head, into a book. That was where I went whenever real life was too hard or too inflexible."
"Different people remember things differently, and you'll not get any two people to remember anything the same, whether they were there or not."
"Growing up, I took so many cues from books. They taught me most of what I knew about what people did, about how to behave. They were my teachers and my advisers."
"I do not miss childhood, but I miss the way I took pleasure in small things, even as greater things crumbled. I could not control the world I was in, could not walk away from things or people or moments that hurt, but I took joy in the things that made me happy."
"Childhood memories are sometimes covered and obscured beneath the things that come later, like childhood toys forgotten at the bottom of a crammed adult closet, but they are never lost for good."

This is really a wonderful book. Completely unlimited imagination!
Very mature imagination for a 7-year-old, for sure.
I don't have children of my own, but I think this would be good for parents of 7-14 year olds to read, and perhaps suggest for those children that are finding growing up in this world a bit daunting and frustrating and perhaps frightening.
Great messages, tons of love.

not me finding out from these reviews only after reading the book that the author is a piece of shit 💀 oh well. read it. was alright. can't recommend.
I picked this book up a billion times to look at it so I finally decided to read it. I am disappointed. U am not sure what I expected from the book but it wasn't this. And although it seems like it should be right up my alley it just read as dull and peculiar to me. And it is garnering no interest. I am about half way through, it's barely 200 pages long, but have zero interest in even pushing through to the near end just to have finished it.
I don't give many books five stars but this is one. A perfect fairy story for adults.

This is the second Neil Gaiman book I have read (the first being Stardust), and I can definitely understand why he is such an admired author. His writing style is so atmospheric and immersive. He puts so much meaning into each word that he writes, even things that may not make sense in the beginning. I also loved how real some of his characters were, and how 'dream-like' and 'not real' other characters were. Somehow, they all made sense together. I especially appreciated Lettie and her family. The plot was incredibly interesting and well-paced and had an ending that wrapped up the story wonderfully. While the book was short, it took its time to get to where it needed to and to make you understand what you were supposed to. Overall, I absolutely loved this, and I will be picking up another Neil Gaiman book very soon.
P.S. This book kind of gave me 'The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender' feels.

I like Neil Gaiman's stuff, without getting all worked up about it. I enjoyed The Ocean at the End of the Lane, it was a brilliant portrait of a rural childhood. With monsters and stuff.
