This book should have been firmly edited. It is way too long unless the reader wishes to know an enormous amount about 19th century Burma

I'm sure this will irritate the author, but it's great Somerset Maugham meets Heart of Darkness stuff. The only negative is the ending: Very abrupt and unresolved - no romance with Khin Myo, Carroll dissappears, sudden death of the piano tuner. Unsatisfying, and out of pace with the rest of the book.

Such an interesting book, mostly about Burma. I loved this dear sweet man, sent on a mission to tune a piano out in a wild country.

Eh. I may have missed something. I felt compelled to not put it down but then was disappointed with the ending.

The descriptions of the sounds, smells, and sights of Burma of the late 1880s are rich and compelling; it is a pleasure to be swept into that world. The story itself is engrossing, mysterious, and - in some regards - unresolved.
