I did NOT finish this book, I bailed hard. I really did try to give this one a shot, I watch shows like Criminal Minds, so I tried to come at it from that angle—but then it just kept at the rape, violence and gore and I just couldn’t any more. This book is too gruesome and feels unnecessarily insensitive to gender and race.

There are far too many scenes of women being violated either through references to rape or just male gaze and panty shots...not to mention references to at least three different women wearing shirts that you can see their bras through — not to mention I got so sick of seeing the word “nipple” over and over. I quit while the Chef was recounting one of his “meals” (the choice of it being specifically Muslim women was particularly upsetting and struck me as super insensitive). Who was this written for or what message is trying to be made — because it certainly didn’t always feel like the criminals were seen in a negative enough light.

Not a good read, in fact a very cringe inducing read, and frankly disturbing.
