SpoilerIt's weird that the two characters don't meet (or are even in the same world) at the end.

Not for me. I didnt think the plot was particularly gripping (either Tyen's or Rielle's sections). I felt the world building was patchy and parts not explained very well. Tyen's plot had the potential to be very interesting, but was somewhat disappointing.

A fabulous read, this is t my first time reading this book but it was wonderful to return to it. Trudy is a skilled and one of the best fantasy authors around. Her writing is beautiful, the world building perfect and her character and character development is just amazing. The stories she weaves especially this one are full of magic, adventures, twists and turns, writing so good you won’t see anything coming, full of emotion and intrigue. Just an amazing book. Highly recommended.

The beginning was amazing and it slowed down in the middle with more mundane issues that didn't interest me and then both POVs had a huge plot twist and I couldn't put it down. Just had to get out of that slump in the middle. I'd be more thorough but I'm about to leave for the airport and I just finished this!

I chose this book on a whim from my local library's audiobook list and it was intriguing from the start, but I got distracted by life and other books. I can't wait to pick it up again but in physical/e-book format so i can finish reading it at last. This book helped me to realise that, while i love audiobooks for the their convenience, it's a struggle for me to listen to literary fiction and some fantasy books on audio.

Trudi canavan talent lies in her ability to clearly define a world and a magic system. Very easy to read and good characters.
