Fun, snarky, outrageous characters, with a "little bit of everything" plot - crime, mystery, adventure, romance, and Christmas. Combine the ingredients, mix well, and bake on a train, and what you have is Baldacci's The Christmas Train. It's not a typical Christmas story, and the plot is a little (OK, very) contrived, but I still enjoyed listening to it on my work commute. The narrator, Tim Matheson, does a pretty good job of varying the numerous voices involved so that it's easy to keep them straight. There's humor in abundance, a little bit of love, and an ending so contrived and unnecessary that it will make you groan and grin as if you'd just heard the worst pun in the world. Not my usual fare, but I enjoyed it.

The Christmas Train was a fun book to read during December. It's a light, fluffy, and enjoyable Christmas story. Set on a cross country train trip it's filled with some traditional Baldacci scenarios. A few too many coincidences but the characters were fun to hang out with for a couple of hours. Sure made me want to take a train ride.

This was full of twists and turns I didn't expect, and it was an enjoyable addition to my 2020 holiday reads.

the christmas train by david Baldacci
journalist heads to his girlfriends house for christmas. has to use the train from DC to LA and he
meets up with a variety of different people and hears their stories.

a mystery arises when everyone is missing something special to themselves. they try to solve it together.

everything is in an upheaval when the train stops due to the weather. wow this whole book changed and
it continued on to a good ending.

This book was decent Christmas fluff until I got to the end. I didn't care for the ending at all. Not for sure why but it seemed a bit abrupt and not developed enough. Oh, well. I was looking for a light read and this fit the bill.

A sweet novella with a naughty twist at the end that makes the story even sweeter! Tom Langdon is a descendant of Mark Twain and decides/must take the train to LA to visit a girlfriend for the holidays, the journey is way more than he could have even imagined!

As a fan of train travel, only from DC to NYC, I absolutely adored how this book gave train travel the Hollywood glamour that it used to have. The ease of getting on a train without security and the airport hassles and the ability to move around while travelling and meet people - I loved how the story mentioned the perks of train travel. The other piece that made it feel like old Hollywood was the ability for a pair to meet after so many years and reignite their old flames for each other.

What a great book to curl up with! It had travelling for the holidays, lots of snow and a little twist at the end!

I was in the mood for a cheesy Christmas read and this fit the bill. It was a fun read, although I was always ok putting it down when I needed to, so it obviously wasn't that kind of book. :) A lot of things happen, some that are a stretch to believe, but overall, it was enjoyable.

Absolutely the best holiday/Christmas story I've ever read. I first read this the year it came out (and bought the hardback) and have since listened to the audiobook twice. I still enjoy the characters and the story. It creates a longing to take a cross country train trip. It is extremely well written and the audiobook is among the best narrated books I have listened to. No matter what genre you prefer, you will still enjoy this story. There is a bit of a mystery, some romance, some suspense, some drama, some comedy . . . it has everything.

Imagine that David Baldacci was writing a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie. There’s no government conspiracy to unravel, there’s no ex-NFL player turned cop, turned FBI consultant.

It’s not a joke. That’s it.
