I adore Findley as a character. The writing style is so fun and easy to read. The side-characters are also really well developed and fun. Nyfain isn’t my favorite. I can’t tell if I just don’t like the way the author has written him or if he’s actually just not that realistic as a character.
Regardless, I enjoyed this book and will keep reading the series.

Rn she's having a conversation with a dude wearing what sounds like kinky Grimace cosplay and I'm like, what in the name of evil, sad, cursed sex castle is happening?

This book was something I read for school. I am a sucker for Beauty and the Beast retellings and this one was pretty good. I would rate it better than A Court of Thorns and Roses (book 1) for plot. I enjoyed the lore and the interesting modern/dystopian/fantasy realm as well as the loads of botany. It's a slow burn, but there are some times I did roll my eyes. Some of the words didn't fit the best in the setting like "hagbag" being randomly tossed out at one point then never used again. It felt forced? (if that was the right word?) I would also argue that Hadriel is stereotypical, but I still love him. I imagine he looks like Brimsley from Bridgerton (but at an age between the two versions we have in the show... maybe 40? Not 26 as mentioned in the book). I'm glad it didn't wrap everything up with a neat little bow because with the amount of lore that was given, I don't think you'd be able to fit everything in without rushing in one 400ish page book. Worth a read if you're cool with spice but really enjoy world building!

The premise of the world was a bit interesting, but the writing was immature and childish in a way that was terribly juxtaposed by the otherwise mature themes and images. If this hadn't been required reading I would not have read past the first three pages.
