I took a gamble on K.F. Greene's book, and while it wasn't perfect, it was a wild ride I didn't regret. The story follows Finley, who risks everything to gather herbs in a forbidden forest to save her village. Things go sideways when she gets caught by Nyfain, the brooding Beast of the woods, and is whisked away to his castle. The tension between them is palpable, with a mix of longing and secrets that kept me turning pages.

However, the setting left me confused—is it dystopian, medieval, or something else entirely? A bit more world-building would have helped. The spice between Finley and Nyfain was well-placed but felt rushed at times. The stakes were high, but some plot points needed more depth to truly hit home. Overall, it’s a solid start to the series with enough intrigue and romance to keep me reading the next one. If you like a grumpy hero, forbidden love, and a touch of danger, this one’s worth a shot.

I was almost immediately put off by the juvenile writing style but persevered as, due to being written at a primary school reading level, it was a quick read.
The book was full of contradictions (for example the FMC says she is honest to a fault then lies on the NEXT PAGE), the attempts at humour and swear words were utterly cringeworthy, and there really was no discernable plot. The world building was lazy and the characters were really two-dimensional.

Meh. The writing style was clunky at best and the cliffhanger pretty lackluster. The plot was at least somewhat compelling?

Hooked

I want to scream and if I didnt already have the second one downloaded and ready to open I would scream. Finley's internal dialogue was brilliant and some of the curses she uses have quickly become my favourite words. I thought I was done with beauty and the beast retellings but this book just smacked me upside the head and said I don't think so. I'm about to go race through the other books in this series and then very impatiently await the next one.

I...well, this was... different.
This wasn't Fantasy Romance - this was uncensored fairy-tale porn. Not gonna lie, I kind of enjoyed the book though the plot was thin and I would have loved to know more about the character's backstories. Let's see what part two brings.

The premise of this story was totally on brand for me. Beauty and the Beast re-telling! Shifters! Magical curse! Beasties! Spice!

The story was interesting enough for me to finish the book, but the writing style wasn't for me. I'm sad that it ended on a cliffhanger, and the jury is still out on whether or not I will read the next book.
