I really don't know what to say about this book. I've heard so many good things about it and it was just so...disappointing? The thing that bothered me most was that I had less than zero idea what time period this book was supposed to be mimicking. The main character lives in a village and hunts in a forest, but talks about how they had running water, electricity, and ...jeans (somehow) before the curse. I don't usually mind when authors blend more old-timey things with the modern if it's done well. This wasn't.
I also didn't really find anything likable about the FMC. Mostly I found her to be profoundly annoying, and not in it's her character flaw way that will show her growth as the series progresses.

The FMC annoyed me a little with the way she spoke to her "imaginary audience" when she was scared, but it happened infrequently enough I was able to ignore it. Overall, I'm enjoying the world and the love story!

Thoughts: Really enjoyed this one, will continue!

I have so much fun reading this series! Can the writing be vulgar and immature at times? Sure. I almost put the book down myself because the immaturity felt at odds with the age of the characters, but I’m so glad I didn’t. I promise if you push past your initial shock of the vulgarity, the plot will more than make up for it. There’s plenty of action, spicy sexual tension, and intriguing characters to keep things interesting. Breene has a way of extending the love and tension between the two main characters throughout every book in the series, which I fully appreciate as I have found this to be lacking in other romance series.

That said, these books are not for the faint of heart! If you are easily offended by the vulgarity of the language, you will be shocked by the sexual acts that take place in the castle. This book is not for you! I myself enjoy clutching my pearls at the next crazy escapade and silently giggling at the ridiculousness of it all. These books are bold and cross a line most authors would not, but make for a fun and unique read.

This is a little too obvious that it’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling - possibly because he’s actually called a beast. I had a rough time getting into it but was more intrigued in the latter half.
