I was just not into this one. I didn’t really feel connected to any of the characters at all and the “romance” between the two main characters felt… weirdly forced. The writing/dialogue felt very YA despite the random extra spicy scenes. Idk… I had such high hopes for this book/series and I feel so disappointed by it.
DNF - this was terrible. I wish I could give it less than 1 star. Such a good premise with tons of possibility but the writing was awful - the worst I’ve read in a very long time. I will steer clear of this author from now on.
If I could rate this whole series higher than 5 I definitely would. If you love strong stubborn badass FLs, this is, in my opinion, a phenomenal example of one. The whole series I just wanted to be Finley.
Also the romance? The spice? *chef’s kiss*
I devoured all the books with barely any sleep and found any excuse I could to read it on breaks at work because I just could not put it down. If you like fantasy, sass, fated mates, plenty of plot, and a big ol’ dose of spice - READ THIS. I cried, laughed, clutched my imaginary pearls, got angry, and couldn’t keep goofy smiles off my face through this whole series.

Re-read as an audiobook and it’s still as fun! The beginning is a bit long since it’s world building but shit starts to get funny as soon as chapter 5.
It’s definitely not a winning literature award book but hey, I laughed my ass off repetitively so that a win.
It’s full of weird kinky sex but it’s not meant to be hot smutt. More like what the heck am I reading and why can’t I stop.
Also, Hadriel is my favourite side character EVER. Yes, I’ve said it. He’s my #1. That guy is making the whole book worth the read.

3 stars for the book
5 stars for the audio. The female narrator did a fabulous job
This was very fun and kinda silly but I loved it for what it was,
The butler is the MVP of the whole book.

Was this a 5 star read, no. Did it keep me entertained on a 12 hour shift, yes.
The cover and synopsis brought me in, but it wasn’t what I expected. It was pretty spot on for B&tB plot wise, with very little plot, and a decent amount of smut.
The world of the book frustrated me - a curse that took away their electricity and resulted in them living in medieval times? Idk, threw me off a bit.

nice twist on an old favourite
Easy to read. Characters are innovative for the story, the history of the kingdom and villages is refreshing. The spicy scenes are crude and crass, but easy to skip through. Other than that, it’s a nice twist on an old favourite.

I don't like to write reviews on just one book in a series, especially one that is more than three books long. If the author is trying to tell an epic story there are just going to points in the series that lull or slow down. That's just the nature of writing and you need those slowdown books to flesh out characters, motives, and world building.
With that in mind, I found the Deliciously Dark Fairytales series to be absolutely fantastic. The writing is light and doesn't get overly weighed down by descriptions or internal monologue. All the characters were extremely likeable and the banter was top notch. My only complaints were maybe a reel back in of the frequency of spicy scenes. Sometimes I was hoping for a push in the plot line only to get caught in another spicy scene despite them being superbly written.
I laughed out loud. I shouted at the pages. I felt my chest swell with the love between characters. This will forever be one of those series I wish I could read again for the first time.

Finley(FMC) is snarky & hilarious, the butler Hadriel is even funnier. MMC is our beast and he is fiiiiiiiiiiiine. Definitely recommend! Finished this book in just a couple hours…onto the second!
