This is a very timely read and offers a perspective of significance.
From a craft standpoint, I appreciated the smaller scenes and details that still held their weight semantically. Similarly, the author does an excellent job of showing not telling while still getting the message across strongly. The one point of craft I think falls flat was the frequent use of redundant and sequential sentences. For the first half of the book, I understand the choice, as it reflects the drawl of war and the stubbornness of the immorality. But for the second half, though I understand it to likely be a point of emphasis for certain details and another commentary on immorality, I don't think it was very effective. Often the points were emphasized enough already by the narrative. But I do acknowledge the intention behind a syntactical decision like this.
This story is uncomfortable to read, and it should be. It is haunting from start to end, and it left an impression on me I cannot ignore. It's symbolic simplicity was powerful. I will be thinking about this book constantly from now on. There's a lot of relevant conversation that should and does spring from this narrative.

This book is so quiet, so gentle but a the same time has so much force.
The way it treats the topic is fitting and unique and just really really works.
The title is superbly chosen and haunts the whole book.
Both stories hinge on a minor detail as does the ending as does the connection of the two. But not only that the book is written in a way that gently screams minor detail. This is more like a continuous description than a narration and at first I thought that I might not like it but it captured me and lured me in, it is so fitting because it is all details, all minor details. So every minor detail becomes a metaphor for the struggle which regrettably is often disregarded or regarded as only a minor detail.
While reading it I was also tracking her way on google maps. The villages that now are a "park"... the different lives they live... crazy.

A memorable and impactful book. The writing style draws you in and brings you along with it, and the author’s fitting attention to detail is one of the books strengths. It’s a slow paced and heavy book.

This isn’t a style of story I would normally enjoy- it’s akin to an episode of Fresh Air on NPR and reads almost like a human interest news article. Which isn’t bad! Just not normally my cup of tea. However, I appreciate the significance of the Palestinian perspective these days and experiencing a front row seat to the thoughts, emotions, and navigation of just existing in a military occupied settlement was important and will definitely stick with me.
