A good read. The attention to detail and writing is great—kudos to the translator as well. As someone whose knowledge of the Israel-Palestine conflict is limited to material taught in high school in the US (so not much) this book and the level of detail allowed me to understand and empathize more with the conditions Palestinians have had to and continue to live through. The constant fear of getting pulled over or stopped at a checkpoint. The lack of ability to travel what used to be your country. The decimation of Palestinian villages. The automatic assumption from Israelis that you’re scum of the earth, and the shoot-first-ask-later mentality. The lack of resources or subpar infrastructure, like water pressure, that aren’t even a question in Israeli occupied areas. The constant fear and anxiety was beautifully captured in this work. The woman’s bravery to even embark on this task is incredible.

Wow this novel really makes you think

devastating but so so important. both the first part, describing the war crime the protagonist becomes obsessed with, and the second, describing daily life under occupation while she tries to find out more about it. its all so harrowing (esp the parallels) but something everyone should read
