This is some of the best writing I have ever had the pleasure of reading. How Shibli manages to tell these tales in a mirrored but never boring way is phenomenal. Her ability to describe pain through the exploration of anxious thoughts is simply astounding. The depiction of anxiety, and particularly the anxiety of living under occupation, is a remarkable strength of the book. Giving life to the little girl who was taken by writing this as some sort of acceptance of the unknowing of her life but with the obvious desire to know, to honor her, to hold her hand and ask her to rest, was a great act of love and labor, I must imagine.
