I really liked the first half and last half. The middle half went by slowly - there was stuff i felt could be cut. For instance, it didn’t need to remind us why/how he knew science after the first few times. I get it, he was earning a degree in science and now spends all day teaching it. It’s ok for him to just…know stuff. Sometimes it felt like it was trying to be smarter than it needed to be, and it made descriptions of things the characters were doing confusing. The characters were compelling, especially rocky. I enjoyed getting flashbacks. The reveal at the end of chapter 23 and the rest of the book made it worth it, but it felt like it took so long to get there. That might just be me though - I don’t think sci fi is my thing. Some other stuff: Once he realized it wasn’t a suicide mission, why didn’t he start rationing food? Surely he could look up the minimum to keep him alive. And he was just chugging that water! What if the recycling system broke and rocky wasnt there?
-If the slurry is bad. Why not put a tube back in so he doesn’t have to taste it?? The computer knows how to put one in and clean it it seems. Also was yaw, pitch and roll ever explained or did I overlook it?
Lastly; I LOVED the ending.

Aw this was such a sweet read, I thought the ending was realistic and I loved the interactions between Grace and Rocky. Sometimes it was annoying to read "I'm gonna do science" but I appreciate the effort made to explain different parts of the science and maths behind a space journey like this. Could have been much shorter though

I thought this was a fun read. The relationship developed between Ryland and Rocky was really sweet, and I came to really like Rocky (even though he's described looking like a spider...)
Even though the book is very scientific and has a lot of the jargon that I don't really understand, I wasn't too lost. I think that goes down to Weir's ability to simplify it.

I really liked Stratt- everything she does feels consistent in her character.
