Admittedly, it took a few pages to immerse myself in the narrative, but persisting was incredibly rewarding. Those familiar with Penelope's previous works recognize the pervasive darkness she weaves into her tales. Yet, herein lies the allure: she masterfully transforms even the bleakest and most harrowing emotions into something profoundly beautiful. Life, after all, isn't merely black and white; both joy and sorrow befall the just and the unjust alike. Ultimately, it's how we confront and grow from these experiences that truly matters.

I feel like I shouldn't like it.

There's a lot going on in this book. Spiciness is delayed but once it comes in its basically straight porn from there! There's a weird family thing but not blood family and I don't know if I love that portion but good book and story besides that portion!

I can see why some people were absolutely freaked about this book. It’s certainly a forbidden romance, with some taboo elements that might give you the ick if you think about it too literally.

I liked this book overall. The plots were interesting enough, with Tiernan moving into a middle of nowhere town with her late father’s “step family”. The multiple POVs allowed us to get to know each character and have a better insight into their thinking. I thought some parts were unnecessary (like why did Kaleb have to do what he did on their first meeting), it just seemed unnecessary. I liked how it ended though, and where each character ended up.

I also read this super quickly, in less than 24 hours.
