The dog dying killed me.
I get why everyone thinks this book is awesome, didn’t do it for me. Will I still read the other two? Oh hell yeah.

In 2014, tragedy struck Fairview. Popular high schooler Andie Bell disappeared, and her boyfriend, Sal Singh, was presumed to be her murderer—an idea the town collectively accepts as truth when Sal kills himself.

Five years later, high school senior Pippa Fitz-Amobi still doesn’t believe Sal was guilty. So, she decides to reopen the case for her senior project, taking it upon herself—and Sal’s younger brother, Ravi—to track down what really happened that fateful night. She quickly begins uncovering dark secrets, and one thing becomes clear: someone doesn’t like that she’s asking questions.

I am SO glad I chose to listen to this book. The ensemble of voice actors was spot on, from the main character narrator, Pippa, to the various side characters she interviews and records. The primary voice actor, @baileycarrvoice, imbues each word with such emotion, it’s easy to get lost in the story and the mystery of it all.

It didn’t feel overly YA to me, though I’m not sure if listening to the book alters how the story comes across. I partly predicted the ending, but there were some big things I didn’t see coming, and I enjoy when the ending to a thriller manages to catch me unawares. I definitely recommend reading or listening to this book, and I can’t wait to pick up the sequel…
