Book #38 Read in 2014
The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop by Kate Saunders (YA)

This is a cute read. Lily and Oz are twins and discover that they have magical powers when they move into their new home. There they find a talking invisible cat and Spike, a talking rat. With their new friend and neighbor, who also has magical powers, they are recruited to work for a very special spy unit to find some magical chocolate molds of their deceased uncles. There was a decent plot to this book, with a good mix of action and humor. The characters were fun. I enjoyed it. I borrowed this book from my local library.

Think Willy Wonka with magic. This was a cute story, with a great backstory. I really thought all the characters were delightful and the narrator really brought them to life.

The only things this book and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have in common are 1) the main characters are children and 2) chocolate is involved. That’s it. I would have read this book sooner if I had any idea how wild a ride this was going to be. To give you an idea, 10% into the story, Lily and Oz inherited a chocolate shop that used to make magical chocolate. The chocolate shop has been guarded by a cat and rat (both can talk and both are immortal). The cat and rat both work for the government and they need Lily and Oz’s help to stop an evil immortal from making immortality chocolate for terrorists. AND THAT’S JUST 10%! This book is just the right amount of silly and serious. I would recommend it to everyone I can.
