The Todoroki family is devastating. So much hurt. I really feel for them. I hope they can see brighter times.

Endeavor Agency arc ending in pretty much the end of Class A’s first year (only 26 books later lolol).

This volume is more emotional than I expected! We’re given even more development for the Todoroki fam, especially Endeavor and good lord do I devour it. For one I really love how Endeavor is genuinely a good mentor to the three. Obviously he’s a little annoyed at first as he was hoping he’d have this time to actually bond with Shoto and now he has to deal with these other two idiots haha. But he learns very quickly how talented they are, immediately clocking that Deku’s power is just like All Might, and helps them really grow in with their abilities. He gives them genuinely good advice and being #1 and trying to work on his personal defects, it’s good for Bakugo to see as well. I also love that we see him genuinely looking after his district and doing pound the pavement hero work, not just flashy shit, it’s really impressive.

Then on the home front I adore that Fuyumi just wants them to be a happy family and kind of ambush invites the boys over much to Bakugo’s mass irritation (tho him yelling for the dinner recipe is so damn cute). We also see how much Natsu clearly blames Endeavor for everything, specifically the death of their older brother Toya. We even see Endeavor praying at a mini shrine for him. It’s clearly a dark cloud that looms over them and it’s very interesting how each family member reacts. Their mother is ready to forgive, Fuyumi just wants to mend what’s broken, Shoto is hesitant to trust, and Natsuo has zero faith in any change. Endeavor’s dream of his family finally together again and happy but it means he can’t be there is heart breaking even tho we know he is responsible for the damage. I think a bug moment for him is when Natsu is captured by the villains and he hesitates in fear that he could get injured, but the boys step in accomplishing Endeavor’s goal of beating him to a villain. He really wishes to fix things, but Natsu just doesn’t believe him, but his extreme emotional reaction makes me think that he really does care, he’s just so hurt. Endeavor even points it out saying how much he cares for his siblings. And it leads to Endeavor doing probably the first selfless thing he’s ever done, giving them a new place for their mom to move back into while he’ll stay separate from them in this house of bad memories. It’s such a huge step in the right direction even if it’s truly sad.

Then we get the bit with Aizawa and Present Mic talking to Kurogiri because the police think he’s a nomu created from the body of their dead childhood best friend?!? OOF!!! The tears, I’ve never seen Aizawa so emotional n I was as well. Even using his power the haze that enveloped Kurogiri didn’t dissipate, but we saw a glimpse of the body n it’s def him. He was even able to tell them “the hospital” a clue to the doctor experimenting on Shiggy, so maybe his conscience is still there?! Still, oof. Then Eri’s quirk is starting to activate again so Aizawa has to start her training which is scary and exciting. I adore the way he rushed to her tho. And then sweet All Might knowing he has to keep strong for these kids even without his powers he’s still useful, my heart.

Also we get a flash of Hawks worried now that Twice is over his emotional block and that shit makes me anxious as hell. It’s been pretty’s much smooth sailing thus far and I really love Twice, but I could see them killing him off and I don’t know if I can mentally handle that. I’m genuinely scared in general because the villains are gearing up for this crazy ass war n it looks bad. Also this is where the show has ended so I’m entering new territory from here on and I am STRESSED!!!! Something’s gotta give and I’m anxious…it’s been too quiet, seems like it’s time to rip my heart out…

My favorite volume so far. I loved all of the emotional bits with the Todoroki family. I loved the action scenes and the downtime with the kids having dinner. I loved Deku’s role in all of this. I’m really invested in how he strives to both earn Bakugou’s respect and to surpass them. Their dynamic is my favorite in this series.
