A between-the-wars journal of a middle class British housewife, very funny at times and self-deprecating.

I really enjoyed this. It took me a while because this edition has all 4 volumes of the diary and I dipped in and out while reading other things. This is the perfect bedside table book for when you just need a few pages before sleep. The first volume was a book group choice and after that it sat at my bedside in two houses and during house renovation. I think the Provincial Lady in America is the weakest, but overall I really enjoyed the insight into 1930s everyday life and the period of the phoney war. This latter wartime selection, the period of knowing war was coming but not having arrived was really interesting as a contemporary account. A definite recommend for anyone with an interest in this period. It's by no means a heavy read, you will be smiling in acknowledgement and laughing throughout.

Charming and hilarious

Bit of a marathon. I read it on and off for months. Throughly enjoyable and quite amusing, in a similar vein to Monika Dickens output. Lovely.
