Just fine! Murder mystery involving very old bones, an orphanage, Catholics, and a sort of maudlin boat chase at the end? I never say this, but I think I was more interested in the central romance than the mystery itself this time. Though, the audiobook reader reaallllly leaned into Harry Nelson's Northern accent so hard that the charm went out of the character (who I was introduced to in the previous book, which I read with my eyes). Regardless, there's like 13 more books in this series and here I go.

I enjoyed this more than the first in the series - I’m particularly enjoying seeing the relationship between Ruth and Nelson develop. Also delighted that Cathbad is a recurring character!

The story has a bit of a slow start but increases in pace and urgency until I was racing to the finish.

Also as a lapsed/former Catholic I really like how it explores religion.

Before I finished the second Dr. Ruth Galloway book, I had requested the third from the library because that’s how invested I was in these characters. Loved the development of characters in The Janus Stone, although I did hope for more interaction between Ruth and Nelson. I love Elly Griffith’s writing and find her so adept at creating unique voices for her characters. The little clues and possible outcomes/red herrings had me frantically turning pages until the end.
