A sweet YA romance but also more, a bill about friendships and what is a friend, making friends, keeping friends, and grief. Grieving the loss of her father with her 2 siblings and mom the narrator tells a very good story of how this might go for some people, while keeping the book positive, hopeful and inspiring, and had a sweet love story and lots of ghost hunting between believers and non-believers

This was a buddy read with the #Pemberlittens and a Northanger Abby spin off. Other then the names and places it really wasn’t a traditional spin off, however it was an enjoyable YA book. I liked the positive romantic relationship. I also liked how it addressed grieving and how it can impact family members differently. And it wouldn’t be a good YA without all the complexities of just being a teenager. It’s a cute book about ghost and love in all its forms.

This book is so YA in the best way, in that the characters really do feel like teenagers! The MC is dealing with the grief of losing her father three years after his death, and when a ghost hunting new kid interrupts her senior year, she finally starts to open up and confront the things she’s been avoiding. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to more of these books from Amanda Quain!

This month's Litsy Pemberlittens Jane Adjacent Readalong. We're scheduled to finish on November 30th, but I couldn't I put it down.
Absolutely loved it! It's hard to adapt Jane Austen to modern times but this does it so well. Thanksgiving Chapter was my favorite. Perfect for this time of year and goes along with my reread of Northanger Abbey. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

after about 2 weeks of not reading, this morning i finally read Ghosted! the idea of ghosts was used in a way that i've never seen before, but i expected them to be more of a focus - instead, the main focus was the character relationships (family and friends) and development. my favorite part was the sibling dynamics - i love how the relationships between Hattie and her brother and sister played out. personally i found Hattie rather annoying, especially at the beginning, but her character improves throughout the story.
note: i've never read northanger abbey by jane austen, so i can't say what's similar or different between the two

This book was ok. It started out entertaining, but began to feel very stagnant. The characters were alright. I didn’t really connect to them sadly.
I’ve read a few books that use paranormal themes to explore grief, and this definitely fits into that category. Explaining the theme of grief can be quiet heavy, but with the backdrop of a YA academic romcom it takes some of the pressure off.
Hattie is presented as a perfect student who hates her life, and is still deeply broken by her father’s death some years ago. She wants nothing more to fit in, but has built several relationships transactionally and it does nothing to bolster her mental health. Her family is a mess, her mom is practically absent and she is annoyed with her eldest sister and practically a second mother to her younger brother. There’s a lot of pressure. So when she is forced to interact with a new student— a ghost hunting guy with dreamy features— she finds a kindred spirit. Someone who actually cares about her. He brings out who she truly is, and is finally able to explore her pain, her grief, and the constraints she’s put on herself to live up to unmanageable expectations. Very well written, and I love the droll humor.
