This is a book I would normally read.... but after so long I pick it up and I love it.... The whole thing is just brilliant and I was in tears again......
I will not say too much but it's a must read.

Lockdown made me do it.
This book is like a bad combination of Hunger Games and Twilight. The whole premise that people are so one dimensional that they are wholly defined by one characteristic like

While the writing isn't amazing, the story is addicting. I went into it not very interested based on the summary, but I decided to give it a try because so many people had loved it. I couldn't put it down! Not very dystopian in the strictest sense if that is what you are looking for, but it is definitely a surprisingly great read.

I have to say, that although I thought the book was great, I was a little disappointed with it. It seemed to drag on, and didn't have much action. The last 150 pages or so were really good and action packed though. I just thought it would be similar to The Hunger Games trilogy which had a pretty good plot with each book, and a great climax. This book didn't seem to have a climax. Although this all sounds negative, I really did like the book! It still kept my interest even though it wasn't action packed. Although it wasn't superbly written, it was easy to follow, and I still felt completely immersed in the story.

The book is placed in the dystopian future where there are 5 factions of people which is based on personality traits. At the age of 16, children in the factions have a 'Choosing Ceremony' where they go through an aptitude test to determine which faction they should be placed into. The main character Beatrice was determined to be Divergent which means that she doesn't fit into any of the 5 faction categories. She was told that this is incredibly dangerous and to not tell anyone. As it so happens, Beatrice chooses Dauntless, and proceeds to go through with the initiation. On the night of her initiation ceremony (meaning she passed all the tests), the Dauntless are put under a simulation that makes them mindless, and they attack another faction killing off everyone. As divergent, Beatrice is not under a simulation (she can't be controlled) and then helps save people, and end the killing. But I guess the story doesn't stop there, as it continues in the second book Insurgent.

Overall I liked this book, and would recommend it to others.

2.5 stars...if that. I'm beyond disappointed with this story so far; the inconsistencies, the cliches, the awful awful repetition, and the poor character development make me sigh way too often. It seems to me that the story was built by taking impressive scenes and ideas from other YA novels and piecing them together; I have yet to see a truly original thought. I find myself less interested in the development of the story as it progresses and could care less about the fate of the characters. I'm desperately clinging to the hope that there will be drastic improvement as I purchased the box set before I started reading but have little reason to hold my breath.
