This is such a sad, beautiful story about left-alone children finding family within each other. Almost every adult in this story was completely useless. Interestingly, it also has kid's introduction into cognitive-behavioral therapy - at least that's what I've gotten from all the magic talk. Overall a good book but wouldn't give it to kids for alone-reading since it is very racist in parts.

A charming tale that recognises the power of nature and joy to heal. Neatly sidesteps the awkward question of differing religious beliefs. Reads as a surprisingly modern children’s book although it’s not.
