[audiobook]
I was surprised at the relatively short length of this book (9 hours) -- based on the description of the plot, I thought it would be longer, and more contrived. Instead, the events of the book were fairly simple and predictable, overall (yes, including the fact that Monica actually died) .
Chloe spent the entire time "gathering intel" -- mostly just attending parties and trying to keep her super spy status a secret. Honestly, I found myself thinking that I couldn't fault the obviousness of her revenge plan because it kind of DOES sound like something a teenager would come up with. I'm not sure what intel Chloe was trying to glean, other than the truth of what happened to Monica. The Level 1's, as the popular clique are referred to, are very obviously horrible people, and are apparently only at the top of the "hierarchy" because they're conventionally attractive, rich, and powerful. The ending was pretty anticlimactic as well, but I wasn't really expecting much at that point. The author also made attempts to include marginalized rep so the whole group wasn't white and straight, but they were very surface level, and in some cases, just passing mentions. I also didn't really love how Zach and queerness in general was portrayed. Just left a sour taste in my mouth.
