I don’t know how to accurately rate this. I had to take a break from reading it in the middle because of how humanely and upsettingly it depicted sexual assault and it’s repercussions- especially when you’re a 15 year old girl in a small town and your word is as good as nothing.

Loved the writing and the story. Only complaint is that there were too many characters. Hard to follow at points

"If you are honest, people may decisive you. Be honest anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfishness. Be kind anyway. All the good you have done today, will be forgotten by others tomorrow. Do good anyway."
Beartown, a story of a small town who puts all their hopes and dreams on a hockey team made up of 17 year old boys. Kevin, the all-star of the team is a lonely teen, often abandoned by his parents, who show the minimal amount of support towards his hockey skills. Amat, a young 15 year old, raised by his hard working single mother, who idolizes Kevin, and is completely in love with Maya, the president of the hockey club's daughter. When a tragedy strikes the town the day of the biggest game of the season, fingers are being pointed at the young girl, who is tempted to take matters into her own hands. Beartown is torn between sticking with the all-star of the team and defending Maya.
I loved this novel. There were so many different characters that played such important parts in the unfolding of the story. I could feel the build up to exciting parts of the novel, and I even thought “shit is going to hit the fan”. And it did. I cried, I laughed, and I was angry. This book is suitable for everyone, at anytime. Definitely recommending to friends and family or whoever is interested.
The only reason why I didn’t give it the full 5, is because it took a little while to hook me; but once I was hooked, I couldn’t put it down.
