pros:
fast paced
clever storyline
memorable characters
actually suprised me at points
lovable AND hateable characters

cons:
iffy protrayal of mental illness and queerness
the ending pissed me off a bit (but i guess this could also be a pro since the author was able to play with my emotions?)

overall this book was enjoyable but just not really my cup of tea!

4 STARS ✨

Okay, so I’m not going to spend a lot of time on a review for this one because there are plenty out there already. What I will say is that this was a quick, fun read that kept my attention. It was almost like Breakfast Club, but with a murder mystery. Not only did I guess a couple of the big “twists,” but I didn’t love them, either. Sometimes simple is best. But that isn’t really the point- the point is that I enjoyed my reading experience and that I would recommend it to others, right? And I did. I also plan to read the sequel. But there is one other thing that made it better than average......

One of my biggest problems when it comes to books with or about high school kids is that they make them far more horrible than they actually are. In fact, I am of the belief that kids these days are far more tolerant and kind than they were 20 years ago. 22 Jump Street had it right: now, it’s cool to be different. Getting good grades is “in”. Rich doesn’t guarantee you’re popular (I actually don’t think it has ever been like this, but you wouldn’t believe that if you ever saw a teen movie). So, what I loved about this book is that these kids supported each other until the very end. Sure, their classmates could be brutal. But these kids were layered, and they were LOYAL. It was a breath of fresh air, and it made me root for all of them. And that, my friends, is mostly why I gave this book 4 stars. Because I think making every teenager a bully except your own MC is a cheap plot device that is ultimately harmful to the youth. And they don’t need even more stacked against them.

The writing felt messy with all the characters. Felt as if I was getting nowhere with the story and the opening hadn't caught me at all.
