I really appreciate Dane Fiueroa's poetry. I keep trying to find videos of her reading her poems, but nothing is coming up. I want to hear how she voices these because rhythm and tone can play such an important part in poetry. Especially the types of poetry she writes.

The first suite, LINDA: A SUITE, in the book is the one that had the most impact on me. It's about her mother mostly. I especially appreciate II-SISTERHOOD OF SILENCE in that suite. The metaphors and imagery in that part are so good. It describes the repression so many of us and the women in our families carry around with us. All the suites about her family are great, but the first suite and that specific section in it really hit me.

The poems in this book don't have a consistent theme throughout and some of them didn't really hit me personally the same way that first section about her family did. The last section is about lovers and for some reason that didn't click with me at all. I am also a trans woman, I also had experiences like some of the ones in that section, but for some reason it just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure why. I think it might be the cadence of that section being different, but I'm not sure. It's by no means bad. That section is written just as well as the rest. For whatever reason it just didn't click with me this time.

I'm so glad I some how stumbled across Dane Figueroa Edidi's work. I wish I could find more videos of her reading her poetry online. I feel like I'm missing out on half of her voice without that. Either way though her poetry is still important and wonderful.
