Deep science, deeper narrative. Slow in spots, but a fascinating look at the science of terraforming. Robinson has an incredible grasp of physical science, political science, sociology and a dozen other sciences. They are all there. Go in with a life preserver - it is worth the ride.

Robinson's Mars Trilogy is so good, I love the politics of revolution, the drama, the relationships, and the science. Science Fiction is one of the most powerful tools we have to explore the human condition, and Robinson is one of the best thinkers in the genre.
I enjoyed this so much; a little less than the first book, [b:Red Mars|35720284|Red Mars (Mars Trilogy, #1)|Kim Stanley Robinson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1500664839l/35720284._SY75_.jpg|40712], but I thought it was excellent.
My only quibble would be the detailed descriptions of the minutiae of terraforming, but that’s only because characters and politics are what I’m here for.
I do miss John and Frank, but following Maya and Nadia through the long years between the disastrous events of 2061 to the new revolution is fascinating. Although these two are my favourites, every character’s perspective adds richness to the story as it unfolds.
There’s a real sense in the story at this point that a sea change is on the horizon for both Earth and Mars, and I’m looking forward to seeing how that works out in the last book.
It's real now. We are free to try. And you only put your full effort into a thing when there is no going back.

Not as good as red mars in my opinion, and it suffers from being a little overlong in parts. Especially since the authors prose style is more on the dry side. Still, I feel like the characters have grown and changed while still acting in their own frame. The philosophical and geological debates about mars future were interesting., even if some of the harder science described made my eyes glaze over a little bit.
FREE MARS!
FREE MARS!
What could/would humans do to Mars to colonize it? What would Mars do to them? What kind of people could even survive the attempt? These are the questions that the Mars trilogy try to answer very very thoroughly.
And then there's the science--geology, ecology, genetics, mechanics.....yay for Science in Science Fiction! Lush passionate real science that seriously considers the world itself--not just as theater dressing. Especially real ecology instead of just dippy emotional environmentalism.
This one is about greening the planet--the ecology is fully considered.

Marginally less boring than Red Mars. Regardless this is a huge win to have marked this off my challenge list!
