“ have died too many times
Believing & waiting, waiting
In a room
Staring at a cracked ceiling
Waiting for the phone, a leste, a knock, a sound…
Going wild inside
While she danced with strangers in nightclubs… ”

I remember those nights & they had been etched onto my bleeding heart; frozen over, but then my love came & set blaze inside & my love then rose from the ashes like the phoenix. But I remember those nights.. Bukowski, even in his moments where he comes across as crass always finds a way to hit home with the next line, next page..

IV from 1972-73 were my favorites from this collection

“Each man must realize
That it can all disappear very
Quickly:
The cat, the woman, the job,
The front tire,
The bed, the walls, the
Room; all our necessities
Including love,
Rest on foundations of sand—
And any given cause,
No matter how unrelated;
The death of a boy in Hong Kong
Or a blizzard in Omaha…
Can serve as your undoing.
…”

RIP Bukowski, I’ll have a glass of scotch in your name soon

The main character is an investigator with paranormal abilities and some martial arts training to boot! This is a kick in the pants. The horror element is also thrilling. I couldn't put this book down.
