The beginning was good, but then Mr. Brown went on and on and on about minutia that wasn't relevant to the story and unnecessary for character or world-building. I very nearly had my husband just tell me the ending but I did stick through it.

We'll Netflix the movie and I predict it may work better in that format.

Reading this again so I can be indignant.

Meh. I mean, it's the same as the other Robert Langdon books. It's fine enough for listening to while I'm puttering or commuting, but it definitely didn't hold my attention even as well as other Dan Brown novels. It's somewhere in between standard Langdon fare and Dan Brown's earliest novels (i.e., Deception Point and Digital Fortress). The plot twists were cheesy, the romance was ridiculously unbelievable, and the tangential historical information was tedious.

I get annoyed by snobbish Dan Brown critics who seem to dislike popular fiction on principle. I bought this book and enjoyed the plot twists and turns (it is essentially one long chase scene) but it is weighed down by Fodors-like descriptions, people audibly gasping in horror, and not terribly original neo-Malthusian doctrine (not Brown's, but the villain's). I am not sure whether that puts me in the snob category, but I liked it much less than his previous novels.

This was a light summer read....more of the same from Dan Brown.

I always enjoy Dan Brown's books because they are so educational in art, history, symbology, and sociology. His plot, as always, was intricate, twisting, and fast. Not a classic, but definitely a good time.

I really enjoyed this. As an English major I loved the deep history of Dante's inferno and that DB can weave such a great story surrounding history and art. Yes the "mystery" is cheesy and its becoming formula-writing but it was entertaining. And it does make u think. The ending was a little too warm fuzzy/wrapped up a little too easy for me but like I said a great summer blockbuster read.

Dan Brown concentrates on the idea that you have to go through hell to get to paradise. This book was Hell, where's my paradise?! Too Typical, dances on the border of boring.

Cons; VERY repetitive. The same style as all his other books, almost identical to all of them actually. The ending was expected. To be honest, it was just simply too much like the one before it.
He is also still doing that annoying thing of speaking about the building that Langdon is standing in, that than what Langdon is actually doing, not to forget that he doesn't seem to grasp human emotions completely in this one. No one gasps that much.
Not to forget how he ends every. Single. Chapter. with a cliffhanger, even if nothing is really happening.

Pros; A thriller is a thriller for Brown. It's still captivating to some limit, the plot develops quite well, the characters are nice, and filled with flaws, which is admirable.
Not to forget that the amount of information in this is massive, which makes this an enjoyable read, yet too annoying because I like him too much.

Needs more bio-terrorism, less tour of Venice.
