Edge of Dawn

Lara Adrian

4.03 AVERAGE

My recap:

It's now twenty years after the hysteria of First Dawn, when humans learned that the Breed existed. The current peace between Breed and humans is tentative and uneasy, and there is an underground war going on between the Order and anti-Breed rebel factions.

Mira was a child during First Dawn, known for the visions that people could see in her naked eyes. Now she is a warrior for the Order, captain of her squad, and an unmated Breedmate. Kellan Archer—her childhood friend, and her only love and lover—was killed in a rebel explosion eight years ago. She's been in mourning ever since, and hates rebels with a vengeance.

Walking the line of vigilante justice, Mira breaks one rule too many and is demoted to security duty. She is to escort an eccentric, young, genius scientist to an awards ceremony. She gets caught up in his kidnapping by a rebel group. When taken to their headquarters, she discovers that the group's leader is none other than Kellan Archer. Alive and well. Her best friend and lover has become her enemy.

Kellan had his reasons for disappearing after the explosion eight years ago. Reasons that he believed were valid and that would keep Mira safe from a horrible fate. But now he is reunited with the only woman he has ever loved and destiny has been jump-started. Their love for each other is rekindled, and they are faced with the insurmountable task of reconciling their opposing missions and saving Kellan from a rebel's fate with the Order.

My analysis:

Keep the tissues handy, because Edge of Dawn will both warm and break your heart early and often, not letting up even at the final, poignant line. It's a touching, tender love story played out on the backdrop of truly impossible odds in the fight against a heart-rending fate. I believe it's the most moving Midnight Breed book Lara Adrian has written.

In the beginning of the book, Mira is someone we don't recognize. She's not the playful, wise-beyond-her-years child we knew from previous books. She's hardened by Kellan's loss. She's a fighter, but for all the wrong reasons. After eight years of bitterness, she's lost her way.

Kellan has made mistakes in judgment and is full of regrets. But he still has a steely core of honor that drives him, and is an admirable man in spite of being a rebel. His love for Mira never died, but he knows that he and Mira can never have a future together. He has kept his distance for that reason, and believes he must continue to keep his distance.

You'll be sucked into Mira and Kellan's love story, their fight against destiny, and the mystery surrounding the kidnapping that sweeps them up into a sticky web. Some will want to savor the book, others will want to devour it. All will want to turn page after page to see what happens next.

Fans will be delighted to catch up with all the warriors of the Order—and their families! Lucan Thorne plays a large role and his son, Darion, is introduced. We see Mira's adoptive parents, Nikolai and Renata. Tess and her son and daughter have their parts to play. But Edge of Dawn ushers in a new era for the Midnight Breed series. There is a new generation of warriors, a new and unusual enemy, and a new mission. The next book is [b:Crave The Night|17184930|Crave The Night (Midnight Breed #12)|Lara Adrian|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1356627795s/17184930.jpg|23633692], and Adrian has said that she's sketched out 6 more novels after that. We have much more Midnight Breed to look forward to!

The first half of the book was slow and I found it easy to put down and hard to pick back up. But once I got past halfway, it had all the drama and appeal of Lara's earlier novels.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was so intense. When I first started the book I felt as though I had missed out on the lives of some of my favorite characters, but then as it progressed, it was more exciting than not! Mira is amazing, the Breed is even more fantastic and the Order, oh man the Order! I am so excited to read about all these new characters Miss Adrian has given us, and WOW Nathan, he is going to be so like Hunter! Mira and Kellen were so heart wrenching. I don't think there is another word or words that could describe them! This book was well worth the wait, and since Lara has done a fabulous job arch the story and giving us a way to have another 10 books or so, then Woot Woot!

After the last book's ending I wasn't sure where the series would go but EDGE OF DAWN jumps us into the future and I loved this new world. The Breed, basically vampires, are trying to live peacefully beside the human race but many years of war and mistrust have created an uneasy truce that can break at any moment. And there are those who would love to see it happen. While we get to see most of the original Order and their mates, this new chapter in the series brings us the grown children of the Order and I can't wait to get their stories. Lara Adrian does a great job introducing the reader to new characters and gives little hints to their lives and personalities without overwhelming the story with too many characters (though I'll be honest, there are a lot).

We first met Mira and Kellan earlier in the series when they were kids and it was obvious then that they were meant for each other, but their story has not been easy and I found their path really interesting. I won't give things away but everything in this book has me really excited to see what happens next! It was also really cool to see Mira grow up to be a badass warrior of the Order which is composed primarily of men. Of course, she learned from the best with Renata (one of my favorite heroines in the series) as her adoptive mother and I loved that everyone recognized Mira's strengths and abilities. Kellan, once a sullen and angry teenager, has grown into a devoted and strong man but he's made some mistakes and poor choices in his life. Though his intentions were pure and self-sacrificing he still ended up in the same situation he was trying to avoid all along.

Heavy on the action but also filled with plenty of romance, EDGE OF DAWN does a great job setting up the future of the Breed.

Once I got over the fact that I was reading a sexy story about Mira.. who I long adored in this series as a lovely child I truly enjoyed this book. Still one of my very favorite authors!

I loved this book! Finally a store about Mira and together with Kellan I like it! I think this one of the best books out of the serie

I am loving binging on the Audiobooks of Midnight Breed. In this book the Order discovers a new enemy, learns of a horrible weapon. So much suspense I was on the edge of my seat.

Balancing the evil was the second chance for Mira and Kellan. His return will bring intense complications and knowledge.

WOW WOW WOW

I Loved this... so much.. its amazing to see the kids Grown up and how they are each shaping up and trying to put their mark Down.....

Mira and Kellan have been destined.... To finally have a childhood crush come to fruition, and bring two best friends together... Unfortunately before the happy ending the couple have t face some heartbreak.

A 5 star read even if i think Kellan's reasons for Leaving Mira, diddnt make much sense... still a great read!

Let me say I love midnight breed books but this one didn't do it for me bas much as the first books in series.
I really liked the older and younger breeds in this book but I feel the their is a huge jump from book 11 to book 12 with Keller and Mira.
Baby are no longer babies and males are warriors and breedmates are grown and seedy young women.
The story does take a while to get going but once Keller come into play then story really gets to good stuff.
Has a really good mystery and suspense in it great HEA for Keller and Mira.
Nathan book next cant wait for his HEA.

Mira thought Kellan was dead. Now she finds that he is alive and her whole world changes. While the Order has lived in peace for 20 years but now there is a new threat that they need to face and overcome.
