I have slowly been reading this collection of short stories featuring the amazing Kate Burkholder. I think I enjoy the full books more than the novellas. Still, can’t stop this overall series from being one of my favorite mystery/thriller series of all times.

When I saw this on Overdrive I instantly put a hold for a copy without reading the description. Thankfully, when I came to Goodreads to add to my TBR, it was clear this is collection of 6 novellas. GR is the best, one glance and you'd know which order the book is. That being said, I have already read five of six in this collection.

IN DARK COMPANY (#9.5) Chief of Police Kate Burkholder of Painters Mill, Ohio helps a young lady with amnesia recalls her identity and who was trying to kill her. I'm not familiar with Hutterites so this little book was an interesting read and a good novella mystery.

I’m a fan and really enjoy the Kate Burkholder series but have to wonder if the author just complied a bunch of stuff to put in a book of short stories to fulfill a contractual obligation. Little action but lots of conversation. No emotional depth and about half way though I decided not to bother. IMHO, the short form is not her forte.

I love these stories. I just wish I'd known that's what this book was! Good to have them in one place.
