This is a second-chance slow burn romance. My favorite part is her friendship with Hendrix and Soledad. They support each other emotionally and in life.
When Yasmen needs someone to take Deja to find the hair stuff she’s been looking for, Hendrix comes to help.
They tell her she’s a great mom, even when she feels like she isn’t. The friendship is a huge part in her healing from the
loss of Aunt Byrd and Henry plus the depression.
At first, I was really annoyed with Josiah because he was so rude about therapy.
I loved how he started going to get Kassim to go then he started seeing the benefits.

This book was plenty spicy. I think the most intimate part was
when he kisses her stretch marks that gave him their children. Telling her he’s beautiful & that he sees his children in what she deems imperfections
. That was so sweet.

Deja resented her mom for asking for a divorce.
The way she acted towards her mom as a 13/14 year old was so painful to read because teenagers truly know how to hurt their parents in the worst way. It had me reflecting on my teenager years.

Overall, this book was about two people who lost a lot,
got divorced,
and are healing individually, so they can hopefully find their way together again.

This book wasn't for me. I'm not a romance reader but was trying to branch out. I felt like it was very predictable so if you're looking for a traditional romance this is for you. It's definitely about healing in relationships. I loved the therapy parts and the friendship banter. I felt like there's way too much internal reflection for me.

3.25 ⭐️, 3 🌶️

I really liked this book, though the contemporary romances and the writing style are not my favorite. The portrayal of loss, grief, depression, and the love two people can have for each other was raw and real, and I even got a little verklempt in a few spots. It was truly refreshing to read a story where the man not only did the emotional work but outwardly respected his female partner for being the first to do hers. Definitely mind the warnings for grief, depression, and miscarriages because this book does not shy away from the characters' journey with all of these (and it does so beautifully).

Spice: 3 🌶️
The handful of spicy scenes were HOT even if they were tame kink-wise (though there were some shenanigans in public places 😈) because the characters' passion for the other made was just so strong.
Tropes: second chance, only one bed, no strings attached
