This is the first (only?) nonfiction book in the Akashic Noir series. The stories are written by former police officers, prosecutors, and journalists. As with the fiction collections, most of these cover crimes that are more mundane, that probably didn’t get much media attention outside of the immediate area. There’s a strong sense of place and other than the fact that the cover and introduction state that these stories are all true, they read just like fictional noir: sad, hopeless, and violent. This is another excellent entry in the series.
