I went into this looking for the same suspense as The Sun Down Motel and unfortunately it did not deliver, however it was still a good story. I think the multiple POVs may have taken away from the storyline and personally I didn’t find them as interesting as the modern day POV of Fiona. All in all, it was an okay read that I would recommend for someone who is looking to try out thriller as a reading genre without the story being too scary.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the ghost story woven into a mystery, but I did really enjoy it.
I couldn’t put it down
I was a fan of Simone’s books almost a decade ago, and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I was looking forward to the release of this book, but then stuff happened, and I haven’t been able to read for a long time because of it. I’m trying to train my brain into letting me do it again, and I remembered how much I loved her books. I thought they’d be perfect for easing back into reading, so I downloaded this. I was worried that it wouldn’t be as good as I remembered, but I wasn’t disappointed at all! I binge read it in one night. It’s past 3am now, but I had to find out what happened!
So yeah, I absolutely recommend this book, it’s dark and twisted and so, so good. Thank you, Simone, for giving me a night of feeling like my old self again. It’s a gift beyond words, and I’m just so thankful.

First read July 21, 2021:
This was a great read! From start to finish, I was brought into the world and was mesmerized. I thought it brought a great balance of supernatural and real-world horror, while not leaning too heavily on the supernatural to get characters out of pinches. The back and forth swap between the past school girls and present time was done very well, and I love the layers each character brought to the story. I definitely would recommend if you enjoy light horror/ghost stories, crime/police/detective works, and personal tragedy tales.

After reading it again, I stand by my initial review! The story balances so well between past and present, and bringing Fiona in to be the conduit for us finding out the truth behind the school and these girls in particular was excellent. I loved the friend group, the camaraderie, the bonds that were formed in the midst of this terrible place, and the fact that it also had supernatural elements. I liked that the story doesn't solely rely on the supernatural, though. It mixes real life evil with ghosts and shows that ghosts aren't always the scariest or most dangerous things lurking. I loved it even more this second time around, and it was just as creepy and gripping as before!
